Lake Lure sits at the bottom of the Hickory Nut Gorge, and most of the lots that call us are on the gorge walls above the water: steep, rocky, with shallow soil and a road above or below but rarely both. Kudzu does well here because nobody can get to it. It runs down the slope from a roadside crown, buries the rhododendron and the hardwoods, and within a few seasons the lake view is gone.
This is the ground our remote-controlled mulcher was bought for. It works slopes a conventional machine cannot, so the vine mat comes off the hillside and is mulched where it grew, with nothing dragged to the road and nothing burned. The mulch layer stays on the slope and holds the thin soil through the next storm season, which matters as much on gorge ground as the clearing itself.
Lake Lure jobs price higher per acre than flat ground in Forest City because production slows on a grade, and access from above or below changes the number. The terrain is real: Rumbling Bald Mountain, the highest ground around the lake, tops out just over 3,000 feet, and a lot of what we quote sits somewhere on the slope between the water and that skyline. Usually. The remote-controlled mulcher works from whichever side has access and can run on grades a person cannot stand on. If a lot has no safe approach from either side we tell you on the walk-through instead of quoting something we cannot do. Send photos with your request and we will know before we drive out.
Does Lake Lure require a permit for clearing on the slope?
