QUESTIONS
Kudzu removal questions
Straight answers from the crew that does the work. Land clearing from $1,500. Sounds crazy? It's not. It depends on acreage and location.
How much does kudzu removal cost?
Land clearing from $1,500. Sounds crazy? It's not. It depends on acreage and location. The $1,500 starting price covers the first visit: cutting and mulching the growth and treating the root crowns on a small, accessible area. Bigger or steeper ground moves the number up, and you get it as a fixed written price before we start. Return visits for regrowth are quoted separately as a maintenance plan; we recommend one for kudzu. See what moves the price.
Will the kudzu come back after you mulch it?
Some of it will try. Kudzu regrows from root crowns, so mulching alone is a haircut, not a removal. That is why we treat the crowns on the first visit and recommend a return visit in the growing season to catch resprouts. That return visit is quoted separately as a maintenance plan, not part of the $1,500 starting price. Read the maintenance plan for what year one and year two look like.
Do you use herbicide?
Crown treatment is part of the first visit on every kudzu job, and we explain exactly what we plan to do on your property before you agree to anything. Mechanical cutting and mulching handles the top growth; treatment targets the crowns so the regrowth is a few shoots instead of a new field. We recommend a separately quoted return visit to catch what resprouts. Ask us on the call and we will walk you through it.
What time of year is best for kudzu removal?
We cut and mulch year-round. Dormant-season work is easier on the ground and lets us see the crowns; growing season is when a return visit does the most good. Most properties get a first pass whenever you call, and we recommend a return visit timed to the next growing season, quoted separately as a maintenance plan.
How long does a kudzu job take?
A quarter-acre fence line is usually a single day. A few acres of old vine mat on a hillside can take two or three. The written price includes the timeline, and we send progress photos while we are on site so you do not have to be there.
Do I need a permit to clear kudzu in North Carolina?
Most residential kudzu removal does not need a permit. Work near streams, in steep-slope areas like Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, or on commercial parcels can. We tell you what applies to your property before we quote and handle the paperwork where it is needed.
Can you clear kudzu on a steep hillside?
Yes. Brush Masters runs a remote-controlled mulcher rated for slopes up to 55 degrees, which is exactly the ground where kudzu gets out of hand in the Hickory Nut Gorge and around Lake Lure. Slope changes the price, and the written quote shows that line item.
What happens to the vines and brush after you cut them?
They are mulched in place into a ground cover. Nothing is hauled off and nothing is burned. The mulch layer holds the soil on slopes, suppresses some regrowth and breaks down over a season or two into usable ground.
Is this really Brush Masters?
Yes. Kudzu Removal NC is a Brush Masters site. Brush Masters is a forestry mulching and land clearing company based in Rutherfordton, NC, with 2,500+ acres cleared since 2020. Same crew, same equipment, same phone number: (828) 532-3671. Read about Brush Masters.
Am I booking or paying anything by sending a request?
No. A call, a text or the form starts a conversation about your property. We look at it, send a fixed written price, and you decide. There is no payment and no booking on this website, and your details are not sold to anyone. Use the request form or just call.
What happens to a fence or shed that got buried under the kudzu?
Whatever the vine grew over usually survives underneath, though wood posts and fence wire that sat wet inside the mat for years can already be rusted or rotted by the time we clear it. We mulch the vine off in place instead of dragging it out, so our equipment does not finish off a fence line that was already weak, but we cannot restore wood or wire the plant already damaged before we ever got there. On the walk-through we tell you what the mat was hiding, including anything that looks compromised, so you know what you are dealing with before any repair decisions.
My neighbor has kudzu creeping onto my property. Does that change the plan for my yard?
It changes the maintenance plan more than the initial removal. We clear and treat everything on your side of the property line the same way we would anywhere else, but if a neighbor's patch keeps sending runners across that line, the edge is going to need more frequent checking than a yard with no outside pressure feeding it. We flag that boundary on the walk-through and can talk through what a realistic return-visit schedule looks like given what is coming from next door, since we cannot treat property we do not have permission to work on.
