What's included

KUDZU IN RUTHERFORD COUNTY

Kudzu is not a brush problem. It is a root problem.

Kudzu (Pueraria montana var. lobata) is a fast-growing perennial vine that climbs and smothers trees, fences, outbuildings and anything else standing still in Rutherford County. NC State Extension lists it as an invasive species in North Carolina, and once it is established the vines return every season from root crowns in the ground.

Cutting the top growth does not remove every root crown. Surviving crowns and rooted runners can produce new vines. Our first visit combines cutting and mulching with crown treatment; checking for regrowth helps determine what follow-up is needed, rather than promising permanent removal after a set number of visits.

Brush Masters is based in Rutherfordton and works the whole county plus Polk, Cleveland, McDowell and Henderson counties and the Spartanburg side of the line. We price every kudzu job as a fixed written number for the first visit. Return visits for regrowth are quoted separately as a maintenance plan, and we recommend one for kudzu.

Sources: NC State Extension Plant Toolbox: Pueraria montana var. lobata (kudzu); Bugwood invasive.org: kudzu (Pueraria montana var. lobata). These sources describe the plant and the region; they do not scope or price an individual property.

What changes a kudzu removal price?

Acreage, slope, access for the machine, how thick the vine mat is and what the ground is going to be used for afterwards. A quarter-acre fence line and a five-acre hillside are different jobs with different numbers, but both come as a fixed written price before we start.

01

THE VINE MAT

Cut and mulch

Forestry mulching takes the vine mat, the smothered brush and small trees down to a mulch layer in one pass. Nothing is hauled, nothing is burned.

02

THE ROOTS

Root-crown treatment

Kudzu regrows from crowns at the base of each vine. Treatment targets regrowth, but surviving crowns and new runners can need further attention.

03

THE MAINTENANCE PLAN

Return visit

We recommend coming back in the growing season to catch what resprouts. That return visit is quoted separately as a maintenance plan, and you see the price before anything is scheduled.

THE FROM $1,500 PRICE

A base price,
with the scope made clear.

Land clearing from $1,500. Sounds crazy? It's not. It depends on acreage and location.

The $1,500 starting price covers the first visit: cutting and mulching the growth and treating the root crowns on a small, accessible area. Bigger ground, steeper ground, tight access and thick old-growth vine mats move the number up, and you see that number in writing before we schedule anything.

Our promise: a fixed written price before we start. No day rates. Nonstandard access or extra follow-up work is quoted before anything is scheduled.

Kudzu regrows from root crowns left in the ground. Mulching alone is not removal, which is why we recommend a return visit. Return visits for regrowth are quoted separately as a maintenance plan, and you see that price in writing before anything is scheduled.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

All kudzu questions ↗

How much does kudzu removal cost?

Land clearing from $1,500. Sounds crazy? It's not. It depends on acreage and location. The $1,500 starting price covers the first visit: cutting and mulching the growth and treating the root crowns on a small, accessible area. Bigger or steeper ground moves the number up, and you get it as a fixed written price before we start. Return visits for regrowth are quoted separately as a maintenance plan; we recommend one for kudzu. See what moves the price.

Will the kudzu come back after you mulch it?

Some of it will try. Kudzu regrows from root crowns, so mulching alone is a haircut, not a removal. That is why we treat the crowns on the first visit and recommend a return visit in the growing season to catch resprouts. That return visit is quoted separately as a maintenance plan, not part of the $1,500 starting price. Read the maintenance plan for what year one and year two look like.

Do you use herbicide?

Crown treatment is part of the first visit on every kudzu job, and we explain exactly what we plan to do on your property before you agree to anything. Mechanical cutting and mulching handles the top growth; treatment targets the crowns, but surviving crowns and new runners can still produce regrowth. We recommend a separately quoted return visit to catch what resprouts. Ask us on the call and we will walk you through it.

What time of year is best for kudzu removal?

We cut and mulch year-round. Dormant-season work is easier on the ground and lets us see the crowns; growing season is when a return visit does the most good. Most properties get a first pass whenever you call, and we recommend a return visit timed to the next growing season, quoted separately as a maintenance plan.

How long does a kudzu job take?

A quarter-acre fence line is usually a single day. A few acres of old vine mat on a hillside can take two or three. The written price includes the timeline, and we send progress photos while we are on site so you do not have to be there.

Do I need a permit to clear kudzu in North Carolina?

Permit and permission requirements depend on the parcel and proposed work, not just the plant. Flag streams, shorelines, slopes, easements and commercial use when requesting a quote. Confirm applicable requirements with the relevant local authority and agree who is responsible before scheduling.
